NS1 antigen is a non-structural protein found in infected patients from first day of fever upto to 5th day after the fever has begun. This test is meant for the detection of Dengue virus NS1 antigen so that it helps in the diagnosis of Acute Dengue infection.

This is only a screening test and will only indicate the presence or absence of Dengue NS1 antigen in the specimen. All reactive samples should be confirmed through a confirmatory test. Results should be interpreted after taking into consideration the patient’s clinical history and symptomatology. False positive results could be obtained due to cross-reaction with encephalitis, Murray Valley encephalitis, Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever, or West Nile viruses.
